I have a soft spot for red brick Gothic Revival architecture, the fancier the better. This is the exterior of the Parish Church of St Philip on New Church Road looking at its best set against a brilliant blue winter sky.

I spotted this rather gorgeous kitty relaxing on a pile of recycling boxes outside a flat in Brunswick Square.

There are lots of Sixties blocks of flats near where I live. Dolphin Court is on the corner of Vallance Road and Hove Street.

A large Cotoneaster horizontalis growing in a Sackville Road garden bears a good crop of shiny berries.

S'all gone

The snow's finally disappeared from my tiny corner of the world and life can get back to normal. I like these bare trees at the bottom of Brunswick Square; they've been battered into shape by strong winds blowing off the sea.

The big freeze

It's barely got above freezing over the last couple of days and the cold weather's set to continue. This was Hove Street yesterday.

We have snow again

Princes Avenue looks like this today. Yesterday was a stay-at-home, seriously cold snow day - thank goodness for handknits and thermal underwear :o)

Keeping warm

Walk, that is. Out of my flat, down Hove Street, across Kingsway, down Hove Street South to the sea, then turn left along the seafront and walk into Brighton.

Not much better

The opposite side of Grand Avenue isn't much better, but at least there's more variety.

Unattractive

Queen Victoria gazes out to sea at the bottom of Grand Avenue. She's flanked on her right by enormous blocks of mid-60s flats.

What does January mean?
