Not the usual semicircular, square or three-sided profile, the shape of these bay windows on the opposite side of Second Avenue is an elongated oval.

I'm in Second Avenue again today, admiring enormous houses with lots of original features. Walking up from the sea, this one's on the right-hand side of the road.

This is Dyke Road; the eastern side of the road is in Brighton BN1, the western side's in Hove, BN3. The photo is of the Hove side, taken while I was standing in Brighton.

Name?

This patch of sporting green is between Wish Road and Saxon Road. There seems to be some confusion about what it's called - some maps label it 'Recreation Ground', some call it 'Wish Park' while on others (including Googe Maps) it remains nameless.

You don't expect

one of these to come rumbling up your street on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. I don't know where it was steaming off to; a Google search failed to turn up anything relevant.

My LYS (for the non-knitter, that's Local Yarn Shop), Cocoon in George Street has an eye-catching display of knitted oranges hanging from the tree in front of the shop.

Turning 180 degrees

I turned from taking yesterday's photo to face Palmeira Mansions, two imposing south-facing terraces built between 1883-4. They were designed by architect J H Lanchester and builder Jebez Reynolds jnr and consist of large four-storey properties with attics, basements and very nice decorative features.

Plumes

I don't think I've noticed a clump of Pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana) for years - it was the Fashionable Thing to plant in your suburban front garden during the Seventies. This one's growing in a garden in Albany Villas and it's huge.

A lovely day by the seaside today.

Lumpy and bumpy

I like the extraordinary shape of this tree in Vallance Road; I pass it regularly on my way to the supermarket and the George Street shops. The tree's always flanked by parked cars which is why you can't see the rest of it in today's photo.

Clamped

It's not a good idea to park in a Disabled bay if you're not entitled to do so; it's an even worse idea when your car tax has expired.
