The bigger picture

Going back to last week's posts about Dorset Court, this is what the block looks like in relation to other buildings along the same stretch of Kingsway. The buildings on the right-hand side are the original houses built c1890 when this section of road between Carlisle Road and Walsingham Road was known as Walsingham Terrace.  Dorset Court was built c1995 and Horizon, the newer block of flats in the centre, was built c2005. The photograph was taken earlier in this year during the Brighton Marathon.

Dorset Court's green plaque

You can just about see this plaque on yesterday's photograph of Dorset Court; it's at the right-hand side of the entrance and commemorates Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell who died at 10 Walsingham Terrace, the original house built on this site.

It's awful weather so here's a lovely blue sky from earlier in the year to remind me that the weather will get better.

Weather watch

We're having very changeable weather on the south coast. This was yesterday's weather - cold, wet and very windy. Today (so far) has been grey, then sunny, then wet and now sunny again. The wind has changed direction from yesterday but there's still far too much of it!

Medina House

Medina House on Hove seafront has been under threat of demolition for several years. Brighton & Hove Council dismissed the owner's planning appeal earlier this month and it looks as though the building has been saved. You can find out more about the history of Medina House here.

At the going down of the sun

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.
