Father and son

Gravestone of Robert Deverell Pyper and his son Robert Daly Pyper, St. Andrew's Old Church, Church Road.
The inscription reads:
In memory of Robert Daly Pyper, the only and beloved Child of Robert Deverell Pyper and Harriette his Wife. Died 12 September 1850. Aged 5 years.
The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away: blessed be the name of the Lord.
Also of Robert Deverell Pyper M.D. Father of the above. Died 26th September 1851. Aged 34 years.
Yea, though I walk through the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Low tide

Hove beach opposite Hove Lawns on a very humid, hot and overcast afternoon. You can glimpse the funfair at the end of the Palace Pier just beyond the derelict West Pier.

Sergeant Grinstead

Gravestone, St Mary de Haura, Shoreham-by-Sea. Reading the inscription, I suspect the 'l' and 'f' in the word 'left' on the penultimate line were accidentally transposed and the word should have read 'felt'.

Pesky pigeons

Pigeons. I hate them. Pigeons try and nest/lay eggs in my plants and they crap all over my balcony. The last straw was a direct hit on a pot of salad leaves which were just ready for picking. I've solved the problem with a box of bird spikes and a packet of outdoor sticky fixers; I'm so happy that I'm now pigeon free!

Let's have some colour!

Hove is wet, grey and cold today and I thought I'd cheer myself up with some colour. This is a hebe flowering beautifully in a Vallance Road garden.

This is the other side of the building work I showed you in May - this side of the building faces Kingsway and the sea.

Teddy's

Chocolate cake, Teddy's, East Street, Shoreham by Sea. And no, I didn't eat the cake myself, merely watched it being eaten...

Slightly battered

The blooms on many garden plants like this St. John's Wort (Hypericum 'Hidcote') have been battered by wind and rain. There was heavy rain overnight but today - so far - the weather has been bright and sunny.

Reflection in a puddle

This image sums up July's weather so far - it's been such a miserable wet, cold summer this year!

Outside the window

I've already posted several interior photographs of the beautiful stained glass memorial window at the Cornerstone Community Centre; this is what the the window looks like from the outside.
