Outside The Old Market
Opposite yesterday's lilies, outside The Old Market is a large container holding a bay tree (note the wind-blasted lower leaves caused by last winter's storms), sunflowers and nasturtiums.

Medina Esplanade (now called King's Esplanade) as it looks today; this is how Medina Esplanade looked in the early 20th century.

...and Now
Part of Walsingham Terrace is still standing (although the street has been renamed Kingsway) and some of the sunken garden remains. The Hove lagoon bandstand was removed at the very end of the 1960s and replaced by Babylon Lounge bar and club, now reopened as The View.

Three years on
This is what George Street looked like three years ago. Since then, several shops have closed due to the recession. Woolworths (centre, in the distance) was sold and reopened as a branch of Peacocks (now in administration); La Senza (right) is closed and the premises are currently empty; Currys Digital (left of centre) is due to close on 18th February.

The bigger picture
Going back to last week's posts about Dorset Court, this is what the block looks like in relation to other buildings along the same stretch of Kingsway. The buildings on the right-hand side are the original houses built c1890 when this section of road between Carlisle Road and Walsingham Road was known as Walsingham Terrace. Dorset Court was built c1995 and Horizon, the newer block of flats in the centre, was built c2005. The photograph was taken earlier in this year during the Brighton Marathon.
