Taken from the same place as yesterday's HDP, but this time looking down Vallance Road away from the sea.

Getting there

Nearly six months since the first photograph, the new block of flats on Kingsway is almost finished. I can't show you it from my balcony this time (the view is ruined by scaffolding and netting over the front of my block for the next couple of months); this shot is taken looking seawards from the junction of Vallance Road and Vallance Gardens.

Across the Pavilion Gardens to the left of the Pavilion is the entrance to Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

Pavilion Gardens

Bordered by beds filled with plants and shrubs, the lawns in front of the Royal Pavilion are a popular place to sit and relax on fine days. Plant species and varieties are in keeping with the age of the building and are as close as possible to the original list of plants supplied to George IV. The huge shiny disc is one of Anish Kapoor's Sky Mirrors which is on show in the Pavilion Gardens during this year's Brighton Festival.

Making an entrance

This is one of the houses in Princes Square - it has such an inviting entrance that it makes me want to walk down the path and knock on the front door.

Square? What square?

Turning left from yesterday's viewpoint, I walked southwards down Princes Square. It's not a square at all, just a wide road.

Green and leafy

The local streets are looking very green and leafy at the moment - this is the view looking west down New Church Road, one of the main roads running through Hove.

This is the top section of a huge Victorian lectern in St Paul's designed by John Hardman Powell in 1885. Many lecterns from this period are shaped like eagles; this one represents St John the Divine's vision of the Angels of the Apocalypse.

I've always loved stained glass windows - the rich colours, pattern and intricate detail are endlessly fascinating. Designed by Augustus Pugin in 1848, the windows in St Paul's Parish Church are absolute gems. This pair of small windows depict St Thomas More and St John Fisher.

Inside the church

The interior of St Paul's Parish Church is full of beautiful, very colourful decoration in the ornate Victorian Gothic style. This shot was taken by Liz when she came to visit at the Bank Holiday and there will be more photos from her during the coming week.

A huge silver tent has appeared on Hove seafront between the beach huts and the main coast road - it's the venue for one of the Brighton Festival Fringe events, Tabu by the NoFit State Circus. I've spent the last few days with these song lyrics running through my head...

Walking the dog 3

Now May has arrived, the beach at the end of the road where I live is a dog-free zone until the autumn. Shiny new signs have been fixed along the seafront to remind dog-walkers about which stretches of beach are dog-friendly.

Flint wall 2

Another shot of yesterday's flint wall - beautiful colours, ranging from grey and cream to toffee and caramel. I find it amazing to think that the same material was used to make tools during the Stone Age.
