And when you're sinking...

...your teeth into the food you've bought on the pier, watch out for seagulls. Given half a chance, they'll whip the food out of your mouth and fly off with it.

On the pier

I have no idea what "ocean pinx" or "lobster flavour tail" are but neither sounds very appetising.

Along the same stretch of seafront as the fishing museum is the Brighton Smoke House where you can eat traditionally smoked local fish and delicious fresh crab sandwiches.

It's all in the detail

My last shot of the merry-go-round shows a little of the fine detailing that makes it so splendidly colourful. As well as the galloping horses you've already seen, intricately carved, painted and gilded fripperies, tiny mirrored cut-glass plaques, shadow lettering and lots of lightbulbs combine with flat painted areas to make a wonderful spectacle. It's nearly the end of the season and soon the splendour of the merry-go-round will be dismantled and stored away until next year.

Coast road

Looking down Kingsway, the main coast road, towards Brighton. The scaffolded building on the left is the front of this block of flats which is still not finished.

You never know where you are

With the British weather, that is. The last couple of days have been cold enough to think about digging out socks and winter clothes; today it's sunny and hot. British weather does keep you guessing!

There's a nip in the air

The weather has turned noticeably cooler over the last few days. There's still sunshine, but the air is chilly.
