Knitting at Hove Museum

Hove Museum's Knitting Month begins at the weekend. Railings in the craft gallery have been decorated with flora and fauna made by the Brighton 'n' Hove Stitch 'n' Bitch group who meet on Tuesday evenings at the Sanctuary Cafe.

Loveliness that lasts

The old Dubarry Perfume Factory near Hove Station was given a new lease of life by converting it into apartments and spaces for businesses including a gym and yoga studio. The harsh architecture is softened by beautiful green and white mosaic friezes advertising some of Dubarry's long-gone products such as Shalimar Complexion Creams and Silkashave Soap.

5 Wilbury Avenue

I like the symmetry of plants in colour coordinated pots, but it's a shame no one removed the pot labels before planting them up...

1 Wilbury Avenue

There are some lovely houses in this part of Hove. Many of them are still in use as family homes although some buildings have been split up into flats.

Footbridge 1

There's an old fashioned footbridge over the railway lines at Hove Station. The bridge connects Goldstone Villas to Hove Park Villas; it's a really useful shortcut when walking from where I live to the northern part of Hove.

Spiders

There are more spiders than usual around this autumn. I counted over two dozen webs in gardens this morning on my way home from shopping.

Such a good idea

Brighton & Hove City Council have started brightening up the facades of derelict shops by filling the windows with reproduction Victorian and Edwardian photographs of the local area. These photographs are cheering up a disused building society in Church Road, Hove.

Street furniture

Some of the street furniture along the seafront is extraordinarily ornate. This is the lower part of a street light which combines several decorative motifs and borders to great effect. I love the pattern of leaves and roses twining round the white section.

Indian summer

It's lovely weather down here by the sea - blue skies with little fluffy white clouds, bright sunshine and temperatures warm enough to go out without wearing a jacket. I love the shape of the gabled tops of these buildings on Church Road as they stand out proudly against the sky.
