Three years on
This is what George Street looked like three years ago. Since then, several shops have closed due to the recession. Woolworths (centre, in the distance) was sold and reopened as a branch of Peacocks (now in administration); La Senza (right) is closed and the premises are currently empty; Currys Digital (left of centre) is due to close on 18th February.

Deceptive
Judging by the photograph of Vallance Road, it looks like a beautiful day down here by the sea. In real life, it's not as nice as it looks. The weather's bitingly cold today and there's the sort of nasty wind that makes your face ache. I've been out twice and I'm so glad to be back at home now.

Not even a flake
Unlike most of the country, no snow has fallen where I live. It's very cold though; definitely thermal vest weather!
