Keep off the plants!

Growing plants successfully on my balcony is a bit of a struggle. The balcony is south-facing and on the third-floor east/south corner of the block - plants bake in the summer, freeze in the winter and they're battered by strong, salt-laden winds during most of the year. This year, I'm trying a trough of violas and ivy. The sticks poking out of the soil at angles are bamboo skewers; this makes a pretty good pigeon deterrent.

Progressing

Building work is still going on; the roof looks very different from how it did last month.

Floreat Hova

Hove's coat of arms above the doorway of an office building, Regent House, in Hove Street. The Latin motto means "May Hove flourish".

One we made earlier

Heavy cloud cover has meant the sky has been an unbroken grey for the last few days - here's a much nicer sky from last month.

You can see more of today's sky photographs at Skywatch Friday.

Pink

I took this photograph of the clematis-down-the-road on Tuesday, May 1st - it's flowering slightly later than it did last year.

Greening up nicely

We've had plenty of rain down here on the coast; plants and trees are turning shades of green. This is Vallance Road looking towards the lumpy, bumpy tree.
