First day of the New Year
I walked down the seafront to Hove Lagoon this morning. As well as the ubiquitous and noisy herring gulls and black-headed gulls on the water, there was a large group of swans and cygnets by the edge of the small lagoon. Swans looks so graceful in the water, but on land they're cumbersome creatures and rather grumpy, squabbling fiercely over morsels of food.

I love to watch the big birds in the water.
Grumpy is right! I wonder why there's no euphemism for a beautiful creature with a miserable personality? Happy New Year!
Beautiful! Happy New Year.
Portland Oregon Daily Photo sends you heartfelt wishes for the new year. May your 2009 be filled with good health, riches of the mind and heart, loved ones returning home, an increased respect for our fragile planet, and the cessation of wars across the Earth.
Wow! That's some stretch!
This is a nice catch. Reminds me of my run-ins with Canada geese.
I thought I left a New Year's message on yesterday's post, but it's not there, so -- I wish you a very Happy New Year! Looking forward to more of Hove in 2009.
Great image. A lot of birds there. Happy New Year, Wibbo
