The white line across the seafront marks the point where Hove becomes Brighton (or Brighton becomes Hove if you're walking in the other direction). Hove is to the right of the line, Brighton to the left.
It's a windbreak which gives a bit of protection while you're sipping your cup of coffee (or tea) - you can just see the top of a chair back through one of the transparent patches.
I moved to Hove from London in 2007 and I'm gradually finding out about the delights of both city and seaside. Come and join me on my pictorial voyage of discovery.

Lots of intrigueing things here. I noticed the seafront health walk and the guy with the bag labelled "herbs & vitamins". Why the yellow tarpaulin?
