Sergeant Grinstead

Gravestone, St Mary de Haura, Shoreham-by-Sea. Reading the inscription, I suspect the 'l' and 'f' in the word 'left' on the penultimate line were accidentally transposed and the word should have read 'felt'.

and also interesting is the use of the word 'obit' for 'died'

Originally, I read him to be 11 ... until I got to the respect in which he was held in the community. It is such a starkly simple tablet of stone, isn't it? I Am gathering that he had no family of note ... which is always sobering to read.

that is a nice text to put on someone's stone.
funny they indeed probably mistakenly wrote left instead of felt... probably at that time there was not yet a customer service for complaints.. :)
