Short and to the point

Gravestone of William Pitt, St. Andrew's Old Church, Church Road. 
The inscription reads: Sacred to the memory of William Pitt who departed this life 24th July 1850.
William's death in 1850 age 64 is recorded in Steyning, Sussex, and William appears on the 1841 census. He's living in New Road, New Shoreham, age 55 with his wife Ann age 50 and four children Elizabeth, Henriette, George and Harriet.

William Pitt was probably a more common name than one might have expected. It looks like there was enough room for a longer inscription - or more names to be added.
