Early-warning system
Yesterday's photo showed the replica Armada signal beacon at the western end of Hove seafront. This is the plaque at the base of the beacon - 'In 1588 a Beacon near this site formed part of a national network used to alert the public against the Spanish Armada. On the 19 July 1988 his Worship the Mayor Councillor Jim Buttimer lit this replica to commemorate the 400th anniversary of this event'.

Do they ever light the beacon on special occasions?
Not as far as I know! I bet it would look pretty spectacular if they did...
