Portland House

Built in 1893 at a cost of £9,210 7s 9d, the Convalescent Police Seaside Home in Portland Road, Hove, was opened by Princess Christian, Queen Victoria's third daughter. The money to build the Home was raised by voluntary donations and the majority of the patients came from the Metropolitan Police. The Home housed wounded soldiers and sailors during World War I; these days, the building operates as Portland House, a nursing home for elderly patients.

Beautiful photo - love the red against the blue sky. And it seems this would be a nice place if you were older and ill and in need of care.

Reply to Jacob:
It's not nice inside, very smelly and not much for the inmates to do, sadly

I'm so sorry to hear that. I was hoping against hope, I guess. Too many of our elderly facilities stink - in every way!

This nursing home does not stink and there is plenty for the residents to do - My husbands grandmother spent the last 4 weeks of her life there and she couldnt have been better looked after
